Candle Care & Safety

Candle Care & Safety

An Objet de Cire candle is an artisanal piece crafted from pure, natural beeswax. To honor its form and ensure the cleanest, most beautiful burn, please follow these simple guidelines. Proper care is essential to preserving the life and luxury of your object.

The Ritual of Care

The First Burn
The first burn is the most important. To prevent "tunneling," allow the wax to melt completely to the edges of the candle on the first burn. This may take 2-3 hours and creates a "memory ring" that ensures a clean, even burn for the candle's entire life.

Trim Your Wick
Before each new lighting, trim the cotton wick to 5mm (1/4 inch). A trimmed wick creates a calmer, cleaner flame, prevents soot, and stops the wick from "mushrooming" and falling into the wax.

Burn Time
For an optimal burn, do not light your candle for more than 3-4 hours at a time. This prevents the wax from overheating and ensures longevity.

Extinguishing the Flame
To preserve your sculptural object, we strongly recommend using a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. Blowing out the candle is not advised as it can cause hot wax to splatter and may coat the wax in soot.

Storage
Store your beeswax candle in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, which can soften the wax or fade its beautiful natural color over time.

A Note on Natural Beeswax
As our candles are made from 100% pure, natural beeswax, they may develop a whitish, powdery layer known as "bloom" over time. This is a natural characteristic and a sign of pure, unadulterated wax, not a flaw. If you wish, you can gently buff the surface with a soft cloth or the warmth of your hands to restore its original luster.

A Note on Our Sculptural Objects

Our sculptural candles are designed as objects of art. Due to their unique, irregular shapes, they are intended to drip and create new, organic forms as they burn.

To protect your surfaces, always place your sculptural candle on a stable, heat-resistant, and non-flammable dish or tray (like marble or ceramic) that can properly and safely catch the melting wax. Never burn a sculptural candle without a protective dish underneath.

For Your Safety

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
  • Burn on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from any flammable materials (such as curtains, books, or decor).
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Keep away from drafts (open windows, fans, or air conditioners).
  • Extinguish the flame immediately if it becomes too high, flickers repeatedly, or begins to smoke. Allow the candle to cool completely, trim the wick, and re-light.
  • Discontinue use of your sculptural candle when it becomes unstable or the flame is no longer safely contained.
